Autumn is officially upon us. It won’t be long before the temperatures plummet, but for now, we can just enjoy seasonal foliage and activities. Many of our canine companions also have a few things on their agendas for the next several weeks. An Anderson, IN vet lists some of them below.
Take A Walk
Many dogs try to make their walks as quick as possible when it’s cold out, and who can blame them? Take advantage of those last warm days of autumn! Grab some of your favorite coffee and a hoodie, and bring Fido to a pretty park or trail. Crisp fall days make absolutely perfect dog-walking weather.
Enjoy A Seasonal Treat
Pumpkin is definitely the flavor of the month. It’s also fine for Fido! Here’s a treat both you and your pup can enjoy. Mix a can of pureed pumpkin with natural peanut butter, eggs, and whole-wheat flour. Roll the batter out, and use a cute cookie cutter to divide it. Bake at 350 for about half an hour. You can add more time if you want a crunchier treat.
Fashion Show
If your pooch has a double coat, you can probably skip this one: pups with thick fur can actually overheat in clothes. However, if your canine pal has thin fur, he’ll need some extra protection from the cold. Before that first storm hits, take time to go through Fido’s wardrobe. Make sure that everything is clean, in good condition, and fits well.
Photo Session
Autumn’s gorgeous foliage is absolutely perfect for taking pics of your canine buddy. Schedule Fido’s photo shoot for dusk or dawn, when the light has a natural golden look. Pick a spot where the background contrasts with your pet’s fur.
Stock Up
Make a run to the pet store before the weather changes. We recommend getting some pet-safe de-icing products for your driveway. You’ll also want to stock up on paw balm or wax.
Bedding
Fido may spend quite a bit of time snoozing in his doggy bed over the next few months. Make sure that he has a comfy one!
Naps
Rainy autumn days are perfect stay-home weather. Settle in with your pup, a comfy blanket, and a great game, book, or movie. Fido makes a great napping buddy!
