September is Happy Cat Month! You might think that, given the choice, Fluffy would demand catnip gardens, pet furniture in every room, and endless cuddles on demand. However, it really doesn’t take much to please our feline friends. An Anderson, IN vet offers some tips on keeping your kitty happy below.
Proper nutrition is crucial to your pet’s health and well-being. Ask your vet for specific advice, including portion sizes and suitable treats.
Cats are predators by nature, so they are more or less hardwired to pounce on things. Make sure your kitty has plenty of toys to push under the couch. Our feline pals all have their own tastes in playthings: some like catnip mice, while others prefer squeaky toys. Offer Fluffy a variety. Change your furball’s toys out regularly to keep things fun. It’s also important to play with your frisky pet regularly.
Your furry little pal will also need to have some things that were made just for her. You don’t have to break the bank buying kitty furniture: cardboard boxes, paper grocery bags, and comfy blankets are purrfectly fine in Fluffy’s book. That said, a good cat tower and a scratching post will definitely please your feline buddy.
It’s easy to joke about how Fluffy is a cold, calculating killer. However, at the end of the day, these little furballs are really very emotional, and form extremely close bonds with their humans. (Fluffy may show her affection in some odd ways, but that’s bedside the point.) Pay lots of attention to your pet!
We know, most of our patients would rather take yet another nap than visit us. However, Fluffy will be both healthier and happier with proper care. Keep up with your kitty’s appointments. Healthy cats are happy cats!
Making sure that Fluffy always has clean water is absolutely crucial. Many of our furry buddies prefer to drink running water. Your kitty may enjoy a pet fountain or an automated waterer.
We recommend keeping cats inside, for safety reasons. However, kitties do enjoy sunbathing and watching birds and squirrels. A comfy window seat will keep Fluffy cozy and entertained. If possible, put a birdfeeder up where she can see it.
